Programs - Children And Youth

Each participant must have a RCKC Health form and a CKBC Insurance/Membership form completed by their legal guardian or parent if under 19 years old or by the participant 19 years and over. Participants should wear clothes suitable for water activities (no jeans or cotton) that dry quickly. A change of clothing is always a good idea for afterwards. If the weather is cool, fleece tops will make the activity more comfortable. Participants should use sunscreen and wear a hat. Participants of the summer day camp program need to bring their own lunch and snacks.

Canoe & Kayak - Kiddie
Age: 6-8 Years
This is program is designed for the younger kids wanting to explore the waters. The paddlers are limited to six in a group with small kayaks and paddles made just for this age group. Instructors provide a “hands on” environment while accompanying children in boats to provide guidance and supervision. Children learn paddling skills by playing fun games.

Canoe & Kayak - Paddling Summer Camp
Age: 9-14 Years
Learn kayak and canoe paddling in a fun and safe environment on Whonnock Lake. Learn basic skills of water safety, posture, stroke technique, coordination, and balance in recreational kayaks and canoes. A variety of outdoor games and activities are included in the camp. Participants are briefly introduced to racing kayaks and canoes. Ridge Canoe & Kayak Club provides adaptive equipment to aid participants of all abilities to experience paddling.

Canoe & Kayak - Beginner Sprint Racing - Regatta Ready
Age: 9-14 Years
Do you have an athletic and competitive child who is looking for a new summer sport? Then sprint canoe or kayak racing at Ridge Canoe and Kayak Club might be the answer you are looking for. Come and join us and learn the basics of flat water sprint racing in single, double and four person canoe and kayaks.

Competitive Paddling Program
RCKC boasts one of the best competitive paddling teams in Western Canada, with athletes competing successfully at events across North America - including National and International competitions. Our certified coaches work with the athletes to develop their speed, endurance, strength and power in a fun and safe environment. Competitive athletes can qualify for funding assistance based on performance levels which can be used for training, equipment, or travel expenses. Nutrition, goal setting and sport psychology sessions are often incorporated into training camps. Year-round training is provided and we are often on the water throughout the winter months, giving our athletes an advantage over the rest of the country. Whether travelling throughout BC, the country, or the world, many friends will be made in a sport which can be enjoyed for life.
